Brush Guide
There’s always mixed feelings when it comes to makeup brushes. I often hear people say, they don’t know how to use them, which ones are truly needed or that they’re just so expensive!
Now, being a makeup artist, I can say that although it may be overwhelming when picking and choosing the right brushes for your kit, they are a true necessity. Think of your face as a canvas, now it would be hard to paint a canvas without having the right tools. Yes, maybe you could finger paint, but having a three year old, I can tell you that it can get kind of messy and I’d doubt it would as precise.
Below you’ll find a diagram of basic brushes/tools I recommend adding to your kit, brushes you’ll actually use!
1. Angled Blush Brush: Used with powder blush products, these typically are made with natural fibers.
2. Tapered Highlight/Contour Brush: Used for contour or highlight powder products, it’s pointed end allows for precision in product application.
3. Packing Eyeshadow Brush: A synthetic brush which can be used for both wet and dry eyeshadows or cream products.
4. Blending Brush: Typically used for blending products like eyeshadows in crease, or may also be used for precise highlighting in cheekbones.
5. Pointed Blending Brush: Also used for blending products, but due to it’s pointed end allows for more precision in the application while also blending.
6. Pencil Smudge Brush: This brush is great for applying shadows close to the lash line for definition or highlighting the inner corner of the eyes.
7. Angled Eyebrow Brush: Due to it’s shape, it’s the best brush for applying product to eyebrows, use the angled edge to create the perfect tail end of the brow.
8. Concealer/Foundation Sponge: There are numerous sponges of this kind in the market, but my favorite is the Beauty Blender. I love using it for concealer application but can also be used for foundation. Using it wet or dry will change the amount of coverage.
